Indian Railways develop oil leakage free locomotive to prevent wastage

In a move aimed at reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy-efficiency, railways has developed an oil leakage free locomotive to prevent wastage of precious fuel.
The oil leakage free locomotive was developed at the Diesel Locomotive Shed at Itarsi of Bhopal division, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

Generally diesel powered train locomotives are prone to various leakages of consumable oils which on one hand lead to wastage of precious oil and also poses risk of fire hazards.

It is envisaged that the use of these locos would complement efforts of the Railways to achieve its target of reduction in fuel budget by 10 per cent and lead to a spin-off in enhancing its operating ratio, he said According to the plan, railways would proliferate the oil leak free locomotives progressively at other diesel sheds also.

He said it would not only curb leakages but also help in improving overall maintenance practices. Railways is also progressively developing and installing state-of-the-art energy efficient locos and regenerative braking systems
