KCR wants metro rail jobs for locals on priority basis
Hyderabad: Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday urged a French firm associated with Hyderabad Metro Rail to ensure that the engineers and personnel it recruits for the project are from the State.
“Ensure that they are from Telangana and preference is given to locals in the Metro Rail recruitment,” he told Bernard Tabary, Managing Director and Global CEO of the firm, Keolis, who called on the Chief Minister at his camp office here.
A release from the CMO said Keolis is into public transportation, operating metro, light rail and bus systems in many cities, including Paris, London and Washington. As operator for the Hyderabad Metro, it recruits operations and maintenance engineers besides personnel.
A focus area for the Chief Minister, he had emphasised, at different forums, the need for companies to consider youth from the neighbourhood for jobs. Listing industry-friendly measures of his government, he counts the public private partnership initiative to impart skills to prospective candidates.
The release said Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao asked the Keolis’ executive to ensure that Metro operations are safe besides being convenient, even for illiterate persons. Special care, he said, should be taken for the safety of women, children and physically-challenged persons.
Mr. Tabary said he would instruct his managers to conduct campus recruitment at local engineering colleges and “see that local talent is encouraged and preference given to women wherever possible”.
The upcoming public transit system, he said, would substantially contribute towards realising the Chief Minister’s dream of transforming Hyderabad into a global city.
KCR took stock of recruitments regarding operations and maintenance of the Metro, when Bernard Tabary, Managing Director and Global CEO of Keolis, met him at his camp office. A release issued by the chief minister’s office said that KCR insisted on safety of women and children and facilities for physically challenged in the Metro. Apart from following global standards in operations and maintenance, he wanted jobs for Telangana youths.
“Since Keolis recruits operations and maintenance engineers and personnel for Hyderabad Metro, the chief minister advised the Keolis MD to ensure that they shall be from Telangana and preference must be given for locals in metro rail recruitment,” the release said. Responding positively, Bernard assured that his company would look at recruiting staff from engineering colleges in the state, the release further said.
